Celebrate 45 Years of Dance Excellence with Lula Washington Dance Theatre
Theatre Raymond Kabbaz proudly presents Lula Washington Dance Theatre in an extraordinary evening celebrating 45 years of groundbreaking dance, cultural impact, and artistic excellence. This special performance honors Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the legendary artists whose influence have shaped the company’s trajectory.
The evening features the world premiere of Something to Think About, a captivating new work by Lula Washington, paying tribute to the experimental choreographer Rudy Perez, whose innovative artistry deeply impacted Lula’s own creative journey.
The program also includes work inspired by Langston Hughes' poetry, in a revival of Donald McKayle’s I’ve Known Rivers, a timeless piece honoring the work of Pearl Primus and Janet Collins, two of dance’s most influential figures.
In a powerful nod to MLK’s enduring legacy, the company will perform the MLK solo from The Movement, originally set to one of Dr. King’s most moving early speeches, reminding us all of his vision for a more just and unified world.
Join us for this milestone celebration of dance, history, and inspiration. It’s an event you won’t want to miss!
